Spinner vs Hooker (Stroker, Cranker)

In China there a lots of spinners. And spinners often outperform people bowl with hook style (Stroker, Cranker). How do you explain this? Is it because the kind of lane condition in China? How can hookers compete with spinners on lanes with very little oil? And what do you think hookers can do to deal with the kind of breakdown from balls thrown by spinners? We'd like you to share with us your observation and opinions.  Thank you!Continue

Coaching in China

I want to thank Frank Zhao for inviting me to coach in China at his centers in Shanghai and Chengdu. I have only been in Shanghai for two days but the people I have met are wonderful. For my friends back in the states there are bowlers that would but Ed Beller to shame. I mean these people love to bowl. Bowling balls, especially the ones from the states are expensive but the bowlers here want the best and they are hungry for knowlege.

Bowling in China experienced nearly 10 years booming in 90's, followed by 10 years decline. At the peak of the boom, China had about 30,000 lane beds.

After numerous bowling centers closing during the declining period, only about 7,000 lanes left.

Around the year of 2009, it seemed the industry came to a turning point. Since then, people started to build bowling centers again.

Since 2009, in the city of Shanghai, about 10 new centers have opened.
